Amino Acids – The Building Blocks of Proteins

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and perform countless important tasks and functions in the human body. There is a distinction between amino acids that the body can produce on its own (non-essential amino acids) and those that must be obtained through diet (essential amino acids).

Amino acids are crucial for successful training. Especially during intense workouts, a sufficient supply of amino acids is vital, as the demand increases significantly. Amino acids, as the building blocks of proteins, are indispensable for muscle growth and muscle maintenance. In addition to amino acid intake, a protein-rich diet is also necessary to build solid and well-developed muscles.

Amino acids are not a replacement for meals and serve only as a supplement. Depending on the need, they are taken before or after training in the form of capsules, powders, liquids, or tablets. Athletes often combine them with a protein shake.

Two of the most popular amino acids in bodybuilding are BCAAs (Branched-Chain Amino Acids) and glutamine. BCAAs include the three amino acids valine, leucine, and isoleucine, which are essential for muscle growth and should never be missing after a workout. L-Glutamine is taken to support recovery and plays a key role in muscle maintenance.

Other popular amino acids in the sports sector include arginine, citrulline, tyrosine, and lysine.
