Dextrose - The fast energy source for muscles and brain

Dextrose, also called glucose, or glucose is a monosaccharide and is one of the carbohydrates. As a natural sweetener, it occurs, for example, in combination with fruits as fructose, as sucrose in sugar beet and as glucose in sweets. Carbohydrates serve the body as an energy source by releasing insulin and raising blood sugar levels. Especially monosaccharides (simple sugars) are easily digestible due to their structure and are absorbed directly in the blood, because unlike other carbohydrates they do not have to be broken down in the small intestine. Thus, double and multiple sugars are first broken down and broken down into simple sugars, which can last for several hours. Dextrose is often referred to as a fuel for the brain and muscles. Because the brain and musculature are the body's two biggest energy consumers, they need a fast supply. Simple sugars provide free insulin within minutes, which can be used as a new source of energy. Especially with physical stress, the need for simple sugars increases, in order to keep the blood sugar level high. An adequate supply of carbohydrates in the form of dextrose is important for athletes to keep the energy supply constant and to counteract power losses. A corresponding intake is therefore suitable directly after the load, since the glycogen stores are usually used up after training and must be filled again in a very short time. The muscles have the ability to store dextrose in the form of glycogen in their cells, resulting in insulin secretion during exercise. However, when the glycogen stores are depleted after exercise, the body resorts to stored proteins to aid regeneration. This in turn would prevent regeneration as proteins contribute to muscle growth and muscle maintenance. To prevent this from happening, an urgent dextrose intake is of great importance to the athlete at this time. Most strength athletes prefer a combination of dextrose with their post-workout shake. A blend of glucose and, for example, whey protein is ideal for supplying the body with important nutrients and short-chain proteins after exercise. The glycogen stores can be filled quickly by the dextrose and thus positively influence the absorption of amino acids in the muscle cells.
