Riboflavin - the growth vitamin

Riboflavin (vitamin B2) belongs to the vitamin B complex. It is very stable and does not dissolve in water and heat, only at a temperature of 240 ° it starts to evaporate. Vitamin B2 is mainly found in dairy products, which is also popularly called lactoflavin. Unfortunately, it is very sensitive to light and oxygen, so foods containing riboflavin should be kept cool and dark. The vitamin can only be taken up in free form and is present in foods in the form of various phosphorus compounds. It must first be released and migrates to the organs, such as liver, kidney and heart and can be stored there in bound form. Riboflavin can stay in the body for up to 6 weeks by binding to a free enzyme.

Why is riboflavin so important to the body?

Riboflavin is very important to our body because it plays an essential role in our cells so that they can gain energy from carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Vitamin B2 is involved in the entire metabolism of the body and is also a component of certain enzymes that transport the necessary oxygen. Riboflavin is important for the growth and renewal of blood and tissue. It is also needed for energy production. Here it also acts as an antioxidant. That is, it helps to break down harmful oxygen products that are produced while gaining energy in the cells. It also plays an important role in the nervous system and eyesight. In addition, this vitamin supports the tasks of vitamin B6 and niacin. Certain medications can increase the need for vitamin B2. These include, for example, antidepressants, antibiotics, tranquilizers and the pill. Lacking vitamin B2 first suffers the nervous system. Lack of concentration, depression and personality changes can occur. First symptoms are often skin changes: it becomes flaky, reddened and rough.

Dietary supplements with vitamin B2 are very useful to lift a deficiency or even not to emerge. A good vitamin B complex, such as Vitamin B Bioactive from IronMaxx, also contains vitamin B2, making it ideal for supplementing your daily diet.
