Niacin - Supports the metabolism

Niacin is also known as vitamin B3 and thus a component of the vitamin B complex. In the organism, niacin acts as a coenzyme essential tasks in the metabolism and absorption of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Furthermore, it is involved in more than 200 enzymatic processes, including the functioning of the digestive system and the central nervous system, but also on cellular respiration. Niacin is also responsible for beautiful healthy skin and physical health. Niacin is highly regarded by athletes as it can help reduce fatigue and prevent premature fatigue. The athlete can train more persistently and exploit the full potential of his training. The daily requirement of niacin is about 15 mg and can be found in whole grains, buckwheat, spinach or potatoes. But tryptophan-containing foods can also be consumed as tryptophan is converted to niacin in the body. From 60 mg tryptophan 1 mg niacin can be formed. This amino acid is found in protein-containing foods such as lean meat, liver, tuna, dairy products, eggs or nuts. Care should be taken when preparing this, however, that the food is not over-watered, as this can cause a significant amount of niacin to be lost as it is water-soluble. Heat, light and oxygen, however, make the niacin relatively little. However, if the body is insufficiently supplied with tryptophan, it also gets too little niacin at the same time. Persistent insomnia or even serious neurological disorders can result. Other symptoms may include the onset of muscle weakness, fatigue, loss of appetite or irritability.
