Chromium - For carbohydrate metabolism

Chromium is a mineral that is present in meat, milk and whole grain products, among others. The trace element is essential to the body because it is responsible for many processes of metabolism. The body needs about 100 micrograms per day. In the human body, the trace element chromium is found only in low concentration. As part of a normal diet, it is quite possible to supply the mineral in sufficient form. At high physical performance, however, the mineral balance must be compensated meaningful. Chromium as a dietary supplement should always be given to the body after training if possible. Chromium contributes to a normal metabolism of macronutrients. The body needs these macronutrients in large quantities. In turn, your metabolism is essential for your individual well-being and, in particular, for maintaining physical performance.   Chromium plays a major role in carbohydrate metabolism. So it contributes to the maintenance of a normal blood sugar level. This is mainly due to the secreted in the pancreas insulin. Insulin ensures that glucose is transported into the cells and thus regulates our blood sugar level. Insulin normally prevents an excessive increase or decrease in blood sugar. And this is important, because such derailments of the sugar metabolism not only temporarily lead to physical complaints, such as hypoglycaemia, but also in the long term, unregulated insulin levels can cause secondary diseases such as diabetes, eye and kidney damage. Especially for people with a high physical performance, as is the case in sports or especially in weight training, a balanced blood sugar level is important. Glucose is an important source of energy that can not function properly without the addition of chromium. Another interesting feature of chromium is that an adequate intake of chromium can improve protein synthesis and increase the uptake of amino acids into the muscles. Since the daily requirement for micro- and macronutrients, as well as minerals usually rises in competitive athletes, a corresponding supplementation is recommended to maintain the blood sugar level in a healthy condition and to ensure optimal performance.
