What is taurine?

In 1824, the substance was first won from an ox bile and was therefore named Taurine, from the Greek “tauros”, which means bull in English. Taurine is an aminoethanesulfonic acid and is involved in a diverse number of the body’s metabolic processes.

Human beings need it to create the bile acids, taurocholic acid and chenodesoxycholic acid, two important fat-burning substances. Taurine therefore helps to decrease elevated blood lipids in a fat-and cholesterol-rich diet. It also regulates calcium levels in the heart and the eyes.
